It was called Twitch Plays Pokemon (TPP), the latest online phenomenon that attracted hundreds of thousands of players. Allison, also known online as Kamiathewolf, had spent the last few months on it playing with others; Vishal, aka Sussing, was only an occasional visitor. However, in April 2015, they both found themselves up at 3:33am studying for exams, surviving the study-thon by occasionally looking up from their books and typing into TPP. After discussing the nature of online communities with her friends in chat, Kamia asked, “I wonder if anyone has ever found true love through TPP. That would be so sweet.” Sussing replied (naturally with a sassy joke), making it the very first time they had ever spoken to each other. At 3:47am, after 14 minutes of a tête-à-tête over video games, tv shows, and other pop culture, Sussing exclaimed, “Oh my God, how do you get all of my references? Seriously…soul mate.” It was from that moment that Kamiathewolf and Sussing were destined to be “shipped”.

Allison was in the middle of studying for her final exams when Vishal invited her to a “Satur-date” to help her de-stress and get away from the house for a few hours. On December 8th, 2018, they embarked into the frigid cold to enjoy a day of fun and relaxation in Brooklyn. Their first stop was a previous Valentine's Day destination, Gotham Archery, where they joined an archery class. Next, they explored an esports store, where Vishal lamented, as Allison browsed necklaces, that he, “never buys [her] any jewelry.” Finally, he surprised her to a visit to the Brooklyn Botanic Garden so she could get some fresh air out of the city. Despite the bitter cold, they wandered the garden, Allison blissfully unaware that they were being stalked by family members in position to take photos. During golden hour, with the water flowing around them, he asked her if she remembered what she had asked on Twitch Plays Pokemon three years ago. He remembered: “Has anyone ever found true love on TPP?” He told her that yes, someone in fact did, and bent down on one knee. He asked her to marry him; she most definitely said yes!
