Ethan and Hannah met in the Summer of 2010 at Frio Pecan Farm. The two were complete strangers until their parents rented cabins next to each other. Hannah and her friends tried so hard to get Ethan’s attention but he would not give them the time of day. Hannah’s mom convinced the Perry’s to go to the dance at Garner State Park. Of course Hannah was giddy at the thought of dancing with Ethan, but much to her disappointment he said no. Fast forward to the Fall of 2015. Ethan was a senior at TCU living with a fellow football player that happened to be from Hannah’s high school. Ethan connected the dots that Hannah was the girl from the river. He decided to message Hannah but thought nothing more of it than a friendly encounter. Hannah had been praying that someone would come into her life that she wouldn’t have connected with on her own. She prayed as they began to spend more time on the phone with one another that Jesus would guide her along the path of this new found relationship. Being that Hannah was at LSU and Ethan was at TCU, the odds of this relationship moving forward was unlikely. Ethan was secretly apprehensive about talking to Hannah at first. He wasn’t sure if starting a long distance relationship with someone 450 miles away was the best idea. He gave it a chance and realized it was the best decision he ever made. The two continued to talk on the phone and their friendship grew into a sweet relationship. The 2015 football season was coming to an end and the TCU Horned Frogs were going to finish their season in, of all places, San Antonio, Ethan’s hometown. It was Ethan’s senior year, and this game was going to be his final game. Much to Hannah’s surprise, Ethan asked her to come to the game and spend a few days at his parents home afterward. The game was a legendary victory for the Horned Frogs and after the game, Ethan and Hannah met for the first time in over five years. The rest is history. Until the proposal, that is.
For Memorial Day weekend, Hannah booked a trip to Frio Pecan Farm. Ethan knew that was the place he would propose to her. What better place to propose than where it had all began nearly nine years before? Of course he couldn’t let her know his intentions so he had to be extra sneaky as he prepared the perfect proposal in the perfect place. The weekend began and the couple headed west through the beautiful hill country. As the weekend progressed Ethan grew more and more anxious and nervous about what he planned to do. He wasn’t so nervous about asking a life changing question to the girl he loved, but he wanted the entire experience to be as perfect as possible for her. Sunday came around and the couple headed for Garner to hike Baldy. He knew this would be the day. Unfortunately, the park was at capacity and the couple was not allowed entry. Although he was internally distraught he couldn’t allow her to see he was upset. Thankfully, they were able to get passes for the next day. The big day came and the couple drove into Garner. They slowly worked their way through the park, passing the old dance floor where Ethan refused to dance with Hannah so many years before. Ethan was growing increasingly nervous as they neared their stopping point before working their way up the narrow trails of Baldy. His legs burned and his nerves were starting to get the best of him, but he couldn’t let Hannah know he was secretly losing his mind. They finally reached the summit and were rewarded with breathtaking views. The couple sat on the far side of the hill enjoying the views. Ethan was too busy hyping himself up to ask the question that he didn’t realize Hannah was already preparing to start heading back down. It was now or never. Ethan pretended he was going to grab a water bottle from his back pack and emerged with a tiny mahogany box. He knelt down on one knee and asked her if she would like to be his wife to which she promptly responded with a surprised and excited “yes!"
