Vincent and Katherine met in the summer of 2019 at the Sacred Heart Retreat Camp up in Big Bear, both volunteering as counselors for the 2nd week of Family Camp where they were placed in the same group as staff for St. Paul's unit, which was the middle schooler group. Katherine first caught Vincent's eye on the first day of camp during check-in/orientation, but Vincent had caught Katherine’s eye when his sister posted a funny picture of him on Instagram years earlier. After formally introducing themselves to each other at camp, the two got along well and could be found talking to each other whenever they were both available and there was downtime. Katherine gave Vincent her phone number at camp for “official use”, which allowed them to text back and forth for days after camp. They eventually lost contact, but reconnected 5 months later after seeing each other at Mass (November 3rd). Texting during downtime became texting during class, and texting turned into phone calls while driving (with hands-free devices of course). Vinny mustered the courage to ask Kat out on a date, and Kat gave him a chance. They went to Sushi Martini, Victoria Gardens, and a sketchy overlook (Kat’s idea) with a beautiful view of the Inland Empire on November 11th, 2019. Vinny could not wait to see her again, so he then asked her out on two more dates within the same week. After that week of dates in 2019, Vinny and Kat became inseparable not just as boyfriend & girlfriend, but as “top-homies”. Every day since then began with a “Good Morning” text, would end with a “Goodnight” call, and would be peppered with questionable memes sent throughout the day. This only grew stronger while living on opposite sides of the country from each other for over 1 ½ years, where they found comfort in the fact that the distance would not last forever. Months of planning and playful secrets culminated in a million-dollar question being asked on November 18th, 2023. Vinny asked Kat if she would marry him and have plenty of kids with curly hair with him, to which she replied by repeatedly accusing him of just messing with her. She gave a joyful “Yes!” a few seconds after the initial shock, at the very spot of that camp in Big Bear where they first met 4 years earlier (See Gallery). Since then, they have been joyfully planning not just their wedding but the life they will build together with the grace of God.
