The Long Game

Our story begins with the unmistakable zing of instant connection, a moment so electric it felt like a scene from a movie. The setting? A sweaty, echoing gym class in August 2002. You were there, I was there, and the moment our eyes met in the gymnasium, the rest of the world faded. It was that pure, undeniable spark—the kind that makes you forget your name, let alone the drill the coach was shouting. But fate, as it often does, decided to test us. Life pulled us in different directions. We were young, and there were relationships, new jobs, and countless life experiences that separated us. We kept finding each other, though. A chance encounter at a gathering, a surprise message years later that led to a date, a brief, intense reconnection that ended because the timing wasn't quite right. It felt like a hidden gravity kept pulling us back into each other's orbit. Every time we reconnected, that original August 2002 zing was still there, a solid current underneath the years of change. We were always different people than we had been the last time we saw each other—wiser, more established, maybe a little more scarred—but somehow, we were always a perfect fit for the people we had become. We weren't just two people who met; we were two souls who recognized each other immediately but took the scenic route to get where we were supposed to be. And that's the beautiful, enduring truth of our story: we didn't just fall in love once. We chose each other, again and again, across years and different life chapters, proving that the deepest connections are the ones that are worth waiting for and fighting for.
