Vince and Kimi met after a Fil-Am meeting, when all the freshmen went to the dining commons. They sat across from each other and spoke no words but their names. One year later, Kimi walked into her Intro to Biology lab and saw him. They teamed up as lab partners and a close friendship organically followed.

Vince and Kimi’s families were celebrating New Year’s together for the fourth time in a row. Vince seemed to be a little “off” all night, staring into the distance at times, looking pensive. Near midnight, Kimi’s grandmother distracted her by presenting a gift, and when she returned to the main party to reach the clock strike 12, Vince was surrounded by rose petals and a speech, asking for her hand in marriage. Of course, she said yes!

When Kimi and Vince started university at UC Davis, they had very different circles: her focus on Mga Kapatid and her sorority, him spending his time with his roommates and Filipinx-Americans in Health Care. A year later, during Fall Quarter 2016, in a room of 500 students, Kimi spotted Vince in her Intro to Biology class. She messaged him on Facebook to let him know they were in the same class, to which he replied that she should sit with him from then on. The week after, Kimi walked into her laboratory section (late), and she locked eyes with Vince. Out of the 25+ available laboratory sections, fate had placed them in the same one. Just lab partners is how they started. Every Wednesday, Kimi and Vince ate lunch together between laboratory and class. They would share a salad at Croutons in the CoHo, and named their Wednesdays their “Ensala-Days”. Vince and Kimi became great friends, talking about Kimi’s boy problems, Vince’s love for music, and a shared love for food. Bill enters the picture as a key player and catalyst to their relationship. Bill is Kimi’s little in Mga Kapatid and Vince’s little in FAHC. The three of them hung out daily, with Bill eventually becoming part of their weekly lunch. At the end of that year, Bill invited them to go ice skating in San Francisco with him and his girlfriend, Kristina. Vince took a leap of faith and extended his arm to Kimi that night, which Kimi took; an act that changed their friendship to something more. Three months later, on March 5th, 2017, Vince opens all the windows of his car on the highway and, at the top of his lungs, asks Kimi to be his girlfriend. Kimi finished her UC Davis career with a B.S. in Biological Sciences and Vince with a B.S. in Neurobiology. Soon after graduation, they both followed each other to dental school at Universidad de La Salle Bajio in Leon, Guanajuato, Mexico, where they will be finishing up in June of 2025. Now, with the wedding, they will be taking this next important step in their relationship, starting a new chapter in their lives.
