Erin: It was late in the fall of 2014 when we first met. I was a second year resident in Jackson, MS, and it was interview season for incoming new residents. Vince was in his last year of medical school in Shreveport and was in Jackson for his residency interview. Our program hosted a dinner at Char for the applicants. I was looking forward to this pre-interview dinner more than the others because I was tasked with recruiting some guy who apparently was super great and it was imperative he come here. All I knew about him was that he was a great guy and apparently a great athlete (thanks DT). When I first saw him my first thought was, "Wow...he's a lot shorter than I expected." By the way, I was wrong about that. He sat across the table and a few seats down. The entire night I kept stealing glances his way hoping he was doing the same thing, but we never made eye contact. I knew there was something special about this guy, and after dinner I was so disappointed because I never even got to say hello. I assumed I would probably never see him again. Vince: It was interview season. I had already seen many programs and met many people all across the country, however I always felt something pulling me to Jackson, MS. The night before my interview, there was a dinner hosted by the program with a few current residents and other interviewees. I went into this dinner knowing of a few people - friends from med school - a friend from high school - and a girl I had secretly seen on the program's "current residents" webpage. That girl was Erin. Once at the pre-interview dinner, I was greeted by many kind and welcoming people and took my place at the table while subconsciously being disappointed I didn't see a certain face I was hoping to see. About 10 minutes into the dinner, there she was. Erin arrived late, dressed in blue, with a beautiful smile. She sat away from me, but I couldn't stop staring. A few months later, I was headed to Jackson.
