Some recommendations for our out-of-towner guests.

Flight

Arriving by Air

You can fly into Denver International Airport (DIA) or Eagle County Regional Airport (EGE), and we’ve included information about both below. If you’re planning on renting a car, we recommend flying into DIA because the drive to Vail is absolutely gorgeous. If you’re not renting a car, you can still fly into Denver and catch a ride with the Colorado Mountain Express or another ground transportation provider. DIA (www.flydenver.com) Driving Directions from DIA to Vail - Exit the airport on Pena Blvd. Merge onto I-70 West via the exit on the left. Continue on I-70 West until you reach Exit 176 – Vail. You have arrived! EGE (www.flyvail.com) Driving Directions from EGE to Vail - Exit the airport, taking a left on Cooley Mesa Road. Turn right onto Highway 6 eastbound, and follow it about five miles straight through one roundabout. At the second roundabout, take your third right (heading north). Take I-70 East for approximately 30 miles, until you reach Exit 176. You are in Vail!

Travel Note

Ground Transportation

Colorado Mountain Express (CME) provides transportation directly to your hotel in Vail from Denver International and Eagle County Airport. CME is a very professional and reliable shuttle service. There is no need for a car once you arrive in Vail, so this is an easy and cost-effective option. If you book online, please use our group code provided below. You get 20% off! Our special group rate is approximately $72/person, one-way to/from DIA or $41/person, one-way to/from EGE on shared shuttles. Additional discounts apply to private vehicles as well, so please check it out! Guests may also book through our general reservations line at 970-754-7433 by mentioning the Gannon/Lubresky wedding. High Mountain Taxi And Ride Taxi provides service between EGE and Vail (we do not recommend trying to take a taxi from DIA). This is a great option if you have a group of up to six people. High Mountain Taxi: 800-524-5555.

Airbnb

We also recommend looking into Airbnb if you and a group plan on staying together over the weekend. The link below will direct you to homes / apartments / lofts that can be booked in Vail.

Travel Note

High Altitude

Vail is breathtaking in the summer. No, we mean it, it could literally take your breath away! Altitude sickness can hit anyone, regardless of physical condition or age. The most common symptoms include headache, dizziness, nausea, fatigue, shortness of breath, loss of appetite, and unrestful sleep. The key to surviving high altitude is staying hydrated. So while there will be plenty of imbibing over the weekend, make sure some of what you’re imbibing is water. Also, please note that alcohol is more potent at high altitudes so be sure to drink a lot of water at all times. The general rule is 1 drink here = 2 drinks there. If possible, consider arriving early to give yourself time to adjust. Altitude sickness usually passes after 24 hours. Finally, please know that exposure to the sun is 40% greater than it is at sea level. Sunscreen (at least SPF 30) is recommended for all exposed skin, particularly the face, lips, and neck. Be certain to protect your eyes with sunglasses.

Travel Note

Weather

Before your trip, we recommend checking the weather forecast at the link below. Colorado has more than 300 days of sunshine each year, so we are hopeful for a beautiful and sunny wedding weekend, but the weather is often unpredictable and can quickly change in the mountains. The temperature during the day may reach up to 80 degrees or more, but nights in the mountains can get quite chilly (from 40-50 degrees). So it’s best to pack and wear layers.

Travel Note

Packing Your Bags

It is very important that you pack your suitcase with the appropriate apparel. Remember, you can always take off layers, so it’s better to “over pack.” Must-haves: Warm socks Bathing suit Shoes that are practical Shorts and t-shirts Comfortable pants Sunscreen (at least SPF 30) Sunglasses Hand lotion Lip balm with SPF A hat to screen the sun
