Let’s get hitched in Vegas, baby!

It was September 2018. Kathryn was 18 and had just moved to Virginia Beach as a freshman at Regent University; Tyler was 21 and had recently moved to the Coast Guard training center in Yorktown, VA. Both looking for someone new, they joined a dating app and quickly got to know each other online. Tyler was the first guy Kathryn matched with. Their first date was on the VA Beach board walk where they went to an overpriced deli (Tyler still complains about it) and went swimming at the beach. Here Kathryn was famously knocked over by a huge wave. On Kathryn’s 19th birthday, only 2 weeks after meeting each other, Tyler confessed his love for her, to which Kathryn replied, “I think I love you too.” (It must have been the romantic vibes from watching Young Frankenstein right before.) Shortly after Kathryn’s birthday, Tyler was notified of his transfer to Michigan. It would make sense to end things here, but it was too late. They were already in love. Long distance consisted of many visits to each other in Michigan, Virginia, California and Texas. Meanwhile, Tyler switched careers from the Coast Guard to being a lineman apprentice and Kathryn finished her Cinema-Television degree at Regent. Maintaining a serious relationship while living across the country for 4 years was definitely hard work, but it was all worth it. In the summer of 2022 Tyler began his lineman apprenticeship and was sent to Montana. Kathryn moved into the trailer with him that September and endured the most insane winter together (it was 30 below zero most days). They have since moved to the Salt Lake area and have been there since May of this year. On October 7, 2023, exactly 5 years since the day they met, Tyler proposed to Kathryn overlooking the beautiful fall scenery at Snowbasin Ski Resort in Utah. It’s been an incredible journey. Now it’s time to celebrate with everyone who has been a part of their story, because this is just the beginning. 🤍
