The venue for the reception is being held at a special property that we purchased a few months ago. This Beaux Arts style home was originally built in 1892 by John Thompson Street (J.T.S.) Brown Jr. who together with his half-brother George Garvin Brown, opened a wholesale liquor business that later became the Brown-Forman corporation.
J. T. S. Brown Jr. is credited with creating the mash bill for Old Forester bourbon. He was also quite an innovator in marketing and packaging. Before Brown and Forman marketed their own brand, bourbon had been sold to taverns in barrels, and bartenders decanted the alcohol into special bottles with the name of the tavern on the label. Brown poured the bourbon into bottles at the distillery, corked and sealed the bottles, labeled them, and warned taverns not to buy the bourbon if the seals were broken. It was a significant innovation that contributed to the long-term success of the company and had obvious impacts on the industry through today.
