Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts
From our hotel near the wedding venue, DC proper is only 35-40 min. away. One of our favorite spots is The Kennedy Center. Reema and I got engaged on the Kennedy Center rooftop, which has a great view of DC. There is also an excellent rooftop restaurant. Around Labor Day weekend, there are numerous shows at the main opera house, including Disney's Alladin and Shear Madness, an interactive comedy.
Chinatown, DC
From our hotel near the wedding venue, DC proper is only 35-40 min. away. Because I lived in the Chinatown/Penn Quarter area, Reema and I spent a lot of time in that neighborhood. In addition to the many amazing restaurants, this neighborhood also houses the National Portrait Gallery and the International Spy Museum.
The District Wharf
From our hotel near the wedding venue, DC proper is only 35-40 min. away. In DC, Reema and I often hung out with friends The Wharf. The Wharf is a mile-long boardwalk stretch along the Potomac River that offers restaurants, retailers, boat rides and concerts — all complemented by monumental views and DC culture.
The Udvar Hazy Center - National Air and Space Museum
If you wish to stay closer to the hotel and the wedding venue, the National Air and Space Museum is only about 10 min. away in Chantilly, VA. The Udvar-Hazy Center is a Smithsonian museum that has exhibitions and scientific demonstrations related to human space flight, World War II aviation, vertical flight, and much more. It also houses one of the space shuttles.
Frying Pan Farm Park
If you wish to stay closer to the hotel and the wedding venue, and are in the mood for a farming adventure, the Frying Pan Farm Park is about 15 min. away. The Frying Pan Farm Park has a variety of attractions of both a historic and recreational nature. The Park contains the Frying Pan Meetinghouse, listed on the National Register of Historic Places and dating back to the 18th century, and the Old Floris Schoolhouse, constructed in 1911. One of the attractions of the Park is the Kidwell Farm, a working demonstration farm; it recreates a '30s farm and still has many animals including cows and horses.
The Winery at Bull Run
If you wish to stay closer to the hotel and the wedding venue, and want to relax while sipping on some wine, then The Winery at Bull Run is only 18 min. away. The Winery is a working farm vineyard focused on crafting fine Virginia wines. It is the closest winery in this area, and offers an escape from the hustle and bustle of DC. You can relax in the beautiful Virginia countryside and sip on some award-winning Virginia wine.
