During the Mangalashtak, the groom arrives at the mandap, where he is made to wear the ‘mundavalya’. The mundavalya is a holy ornamental thread tied around the heads of the bride and groom. After the mundavalya is tied to the groom's head, he sits on his seat. He is hidden by a cloth curtain called the ‘antarpat,’ which prevents him from seeing the bride.

Family & Friends

The bride then enters the Mandap and the priest chants Mangalashtakas or sacred vows accompanied by musicians, the bride is led to the mandap by her maternal uncle. The Antarpat is then removed and the bride and groom finally lay eyes on one another. The couple then exchanges their jaimala and everyone showers them with Akshata or whole rice.

Saptapadhi

Bride & Groom

During the Saptapadhi, they chant the seven wedding vows out loud while taking rounds around the holy fire seven times. The Hindu belief is that you are not only uniting each other’s names, addresses, families and minds but also your souls. You are considered to be Lord Shiva and his consort, Goddess Parvati. So, your union is as unique as the divine! In fact, that is why you invoke gods and goddesses and invite family and friends – to witness the sacred and blessed union between you and your soulmate.
