Our story began on the night of my friend’s birthday party at my apartment. Earlier that day, another friend asked if he could bring his roommates along. Since I thought I knew all of them, I said, “Sure, why not?” But when they arrived, I was completely shocked—I had no idea he had a white roommate! That surprise roommate was Garret. Garret didn’t say much during the party, but he went along with all the chaos, laughter, and craziness like he’d always been part of the group. Yet one thing stood out clearly in my memory: he could not keep his eyes off me. After that night, he kept coming back—hangouts, dinners, random visits—and somehow, he just never stopped coming around. On April 8th, 2020, right when COVID hit, Garret asked me to be his girlfriend—but that didn’t stop us from having fun and enjoying every moment together. Eventually, I asked him why he kept looking at me that first night, and he simply said, “Because you looked cute.” In June 2025, Garret asked my parents for their blessing to marry me. Then on July 5th, 2025, at a cozy Airbnb in Dallas, Texas, he finally got down on one knee. With a nervous smile, he said, “Will you marry me, little dude?” I laughed and replied, “Little dude? You can’t even say my name?” We both burst out laughing, and then he asked again, “Vidya, will you marry me?” And of course—I said yes.
