As off May 2020, it is still on for Friday, 8/28/20 in Gainesville, Florida. We are keeping up to date daily with the news and Washington and Florida state plans to see if this will affect us as we get closer. We know that this is a serious issue and we don't take it lightly either, so we will keep everyone informed if there are any changes to our plans. We're hoping the curve flattens soon and it all resolves by the time our wedding arrives, but we're also quite aware that anything can happen. First and foremost we want everyone healthy and safe. So please contact us via phone, text, e-mai, Facebook if you have any questions or concerns about the event and we'll keep you posted!
Uhm, because it’s amazing?! Okay, in all seriousness, it's where Carla has spent most of her life and absolutely loves the city. Gainesville is a small community with a huge heart. It's diverse, has a great art community, great food scene, AND Tom Petty is from here! It has so much to offer but also close enough to a few big cities and beaches as well. She's brought James there plenty of times and he's fallen in love with the city as well, along with it's oak trees draped with spanish moss, proximity to the beaches, and cheap housing market.
Good question! We will be in Florida. In August. In the middle of hurricane season. So it will be hot, humid, and possibly wet. Florida this time of year can get to high 80 to mid 90 degrees. it typically rains around 3pm every day for a quick downpour then stops. Please bring a raincoat/umbrella. We will provide you with bug spray if needed.
Totally up to you but if you’re really looking for suggestions we suggest looking up weather about a week prior to the events to get a good idea of what to bring. You can't go wrong with light clothes and rain jacket. Bring swimwear if you're going to check out any of the local springs/beaches/lakes in the area!
Please see the "Travel" section of this website where we've listed the surrounding airports. Jax may be the easiest one but there is also Orlando Airport. For local transportation, you can use a rental car or Uber/Lyft around town.
There are a lot of hotels as well as Air BnB's in the area. For places closest to wedding events, please look around the campus and streets University Ave, 34th Ave, and SW Archer Road. Everywhere in Gainesville takes about 15-20min to get to even with traffic so nothing is really too far.
Good question! There are lots! Gainesville is a city full of fun little things to do if you know where to look for them! Check out the "Things To Do" page on this site for more details! Fee free to also use Yelp or Facebook events for local restaurants/bars/events.
The Baughman Center will have a parking lot beside it that will be reserved for us. Otherwise, if you take a Lyft/Uber they can always drop you off and you won't need to worry about it!
Yes! Florida is great, despite whatever "Florida Man" stories you've heard! Gainesville is great because it's a couple hours drive to everywhere. Here a few places to check out: 1. Ginnie Springs 2. Devil's Den 3. Orlando - Disney World, Universal Studios, Islands of Adventure, Harry Potter World, Legoland (looking at you, Greg Greive!), a couple of outlet malls. 4. Jacksonville - Largest city in the nation. Home of the best AFC South Team ever, and Minshew Mania. Lots of beaches. 5. St. Augustine - Oldest city in the nation. Home of Fountain of Youth - seriously, it's there! You can drink from it! There are little boutiques and shops you can walk around and visit. There is also the old Spanish Fort to check out.
Good question! For the ceremony- we know a lot of our friends have young ones and we would love to have them all, but again our space is limited and the decision would be based on final head count. We know it sucks, but we would want to be sure we can accommodate everyone we’d like to be there. For the reception- everyone is welcome. Swamphead has a great outdoor space for kids to run around in!
