A visit to Durango is not complete without this absolutely stunning train ride. This was what convinced us to move to Durango! We enjoyed the Cascade ride as it’s shorter and still has all the best views.

There are tons of summer activities at Purg! Go do the mountain coaster, the alpine slide, a scenic chairlift, or rent a paddle board at Twilight Lake.

Ouray & Silverton
One of the best all-day-activities is to drive the Million Dollar Highway and stop in Silverton and Ouray “Switzerland of America!” Shop the downtowns and go in the natural hot springs. Gentle warning to those afraid of heights, this drive is not for the faint of heart. It is a steep, winding mountain pass with no guard rails. Truly beautiful, though!
Old Hundred Gold Mine Tour
Definitely do the Old Hundred gold mine tour in Silverton. It is so fun and so cool! They bring you on the mine train coaster a quarter mile into the mine. It’s a really unique experience. Bring a sweatshirt!

Rent a UTV or 4x4 and explore the Silverton back country! One of our absolute favorite local activities!
