Istanbul has two main airports: IST (Istanbul Airport) and SAW (Sabiha Gökçen). Most flights from the U.S. arrive at IST, as it serves the majority of long-haul international flights. While both airports are relatively far from the city center, IST is slightly closer and generally has better transportation options.
At IST (Istanbul Airport), both Uber and taxis are available, but Uber operates with regular taxis, so prices are nearly the same. A standard taxi or Uber to central Istanbul (Taksim/Sultanahmet) costs around $30-$40 USD. Travel time is 40-60 minutes but can be longer during rush hour.
Yes, both the ceremony and reception will take place in the garden at the Hilton Bosphorus Hotel.
Spending three days with our friends and family at the Hilton will make this wedding truly unforgettable. For those seeking other options, there are also additional accommodations available nearby.
At the beginning of September, Istanbul experiences warm and pleasant weather. Temperatures typically range between 68°F to 86°F, with daytime heat gradually easing into cooler evenings.
See the Schedule page for dress code information related to each event. In Istanbul, the dress code is generally modern. For both men and women, casual attire is common. When visiting mosques like the Hagia Sophia or Blue Mosque, both men and women should cover their shoulders, and women are required to cover their hair with a scarf. In more conservative neighborhoods, it's advisable to dress modestly, but overall, Istanbul is quite diverse, and you'll see a mix of traditional and contemporary styles throughout the city.
Children bring so much joy and energy, and we are thrilled to have them be a part of our wedding day.
Please RSVP by June 1st so we may have an accurate headcount.
We recommend arriving at least a 1-2 days before the welcome party to adjust to the time zone. Long distance travel can take a toll, and it would be a shame to travel all this way only to doze off during the celebrations! Our tip—though it’s tough—is try to stay awake until at least 9 PM on your first day. That usually helps with a quicker adjustment!
U.S. citizens can obtain a visa on arrival at Istanbul Airport for approximately $30 USD or apply for an e-Visa online before their trip (https://www.evisa.gov.tr). Iranian passport holders can enter Turkey visa-free for up to 90 days within a 180-day period.
Istanbul is generally a safe city for tourists. Solo travelers, including women, generally find Istanbul safe. However, as with any major big city, it's important to be aware of your surroundings and take common sense precautions. Be cautious in busy places of pickpockets in crowded areas.
In tourist areas, yes. Learning basic Turkish phrases can be helpful.
It’s not necessary to exchange USD to Turkish Lira (TRY) before arriving, as you can easily exchange money in Istanbul or withdraw Lira from ATMs. The best exchange rates are often from ATMs in Turkey. Credit cards are widely accepted: hotels, restaurants, and stores in tourist areas accept major cards like Visa and Mastercard. However, cash is preferred for small vendors and local markets. Make sure your bank card works internationally and notify your bank before traveling.
