I first met Victoria in a class meant for studying math. I had originally wanted to go to college for history but at nearly the last minute I changed my major to teaching math. Then for some reason, I let a professor convince me to take a math class I already took and join a class to study for the class I already took. I’m not sure if I believe in fate, but I’m sure lucky I made those decisions. In that study class, I talked to Victoria every day. I asked everyone at the table how their day was so it wasn’t so weird when I asked her how hers was going. Victoria is extremely smart and has a smile that can light up a room. She corrected me a lot with my math, perhaps I did need to retake that class, but I loved her confidence. I loved the fact that she wouldn’t just say I was right to not hurt my feelings. She challenged me and made me the best me, so naturally, I messaged her on social media. I got called Ted Bundy and then had to work so that conversation didn’t last long. I tried again this time going straight for the punch and asking her to get lunch with me; she wasn’t at school that day. The third time I messaged her the conversation lasted a long time. I commented on the fact that she took a photo in front of the Millennium Falcon, another reason I fell head over heels. I finally got the nerve to ask her on a date to Knott’s Scary Farm, but I wasn’t allowed to say we were dating till she assessed how the date went. On our date, it felt as if we had known each other for a lifetime, and from then on I knew I wanted to spend as much time as I could with her.
At our first Calculus I S.I. session, we sat at the same table, and throughout the class, I kept noticing Nolan glancing at me. He would ask everyone at our table how their day or week had been at every class meeting. I would let everybody else answer first and often wait to respond until Nolan asked me how I was. We would work on math problems, correcting each other, and one day he said that he would find me on Instagram. Once he did, he DMed me, saying, "I told you I would find you (I promise I'm not creepy)." So naturally, I responded with, "lol, okay, Ted Bundy." His response was that he was not charming enough to be Ted Bundy, although anyone who knows Nolan would probably argue against that. Soon after, he asked me out to lunch, claiming that he had a "big gap" in his school day (although I later found out that said gap was a fib), but I could not make it. His response to an Instagram post of mine at Star Wars Land at Disneyland got us consistently talking.
