Question

I've been invited to both weddings! What should I expect?

Answer

Congratulations! While we would have loved to invite everyone to both weddings, we know it's simply not feasible for everyone to come. If you are invited to only one of the weddings, we invited you to the one we think you would appreciate best. For details about the individual ceremonies and what to expect, please see their individual answers below.

Are children allowed at the wedding?

Answer

Absolutely! But don't feel like you need to bring your children. Feel free to make it a child free date night!

What are your wedding colors?

Answer

We realize that trying to figure out a color scheme for our weddings is really hard when the save the dates, invitations, and website don't match. We're sorry! Hindu wedding have auspicious colors of reds, golds, greens, and yellows! The bride and groom will be in red, gold, and white, but you can still wear these colors! Trust me, you cannot outshine the bride on this day. The fancier and brighter, the better. Please DO NOT wear blue, black, or white. These are inauspicious colors. The American wedding colors are blue, gold, and touches of reds.

Will there be ceremony snacks?

Answer

At the Hindu wedding? Absolutely. At the American wedding? Unfortunately not. Everything would be over by the time we got them handed out!

What should I expect from the Indian wedding?

Answer

The Indian wedding is going to be a full Hindu ceremony. There are several days of events, and you might be invited to any or all of them. The wedding ceremony itself will be about three hours long, and there will be snacks and beverages during the ceremony, with dinner to follow. Indian attire is highly encouraged, especially for women. Men can wear a button down and dress slacks. Expect to take your shoes off. If you need help with attire, please contact the bride or groom and we will connect you with someone who can help you get what you need. For the ladies, while in the Temple, you cannot have loose hair. Hair clips and ties will be provided. Indian food will be served at American mild spice levels so that everyone can enjoy. If you have any questions about food, please just ask! Anyone will be happy to explain to you what a food item is, or how to cool your mouth down if something was too spicy. Allergen information will be provided as well, because there is a lot of nuts and spices!

What if I want to wear Indian dress?

Please do! If you need help knowing what to wear, please reach out to the bride and groom and we can direct you, or find someone to help you.

Why is the Hindu Wedding so late?

Answer

In Hinduism, weddings are arranged based on auspicious dates and times, decided by the bride and groom's horoscopes. For Victoria and Sai Neeraj, the auspicious time happens to be 8:30 in the evening. Be prepared for a late night, as the wedding ceremonies will run until about 11:30 pm, with dinner afterwards. You don't have to sit for the whole ceremony, feel free to get up, move around, get snacks, and otherwise relax during it.

Why have I been handed rice at the Hindu wedding?

This is to bless the couple with! You get to throw it (place gently) on their heads.

What should I expect from the American Wedding?

Answer

The American wedding ceremony will only be about 30 minutes long, before moving to the cocktail hour and dinner at a local restaurant. There will be no passed appetizers or drinks during this ceremony as it is so short!

How long is the American ceremony?

Answer

Our ceremony should be about 30 minutes at the most! We know our Indian guests are used to much longer ceremonies, but we're keeping it short and sweet so there's more time to celebrate!

What do I wear?

Answer

Our American ceremony and the following dinner will be indoors. Wear what you're comfortable wearing! Men, please dress in slacks and button-downs or traditional Indian dress. Ladies, cocktail attire, sarees, or other traditional dress.

Will there be Vegetarian/Vegan food options at the American dinner?

Answer

Yes! We realize that Saturdays are holy days in Hinduism. We will be ensuring that there are plenty of choices for all dietary choices.

Why no reception?

Answer

Due to the time of year, we've chosen not to have a reception at this time. We will be treating you all to dinner, but keep an eye out for an invitation to a future party! That will likely be in late spring.

What about gifts?

Answer

Please don't feel obligated to get us gifts! We appreciate you just coming to celebrate with us. For both weddings, we will make sure there is a place to put any gifts or cards that will not interrupt the proceedings. Please keep an eye out at the Temple, or at the dinner.

I have dietary restrictions, what can I expect?

Answer

Don't worry, we see you. The Hindu wedding will be completely vegetarian--but still delicious! The dinner for the American wedding we are being careful to ensure that we have options that fit all dietary restrictions, from vegetarianism or pescatarianism, to gluten free or nut free. The bride herself is (struggling) with a gluten free diet change, thanks to her doctor. The cakes for both weddings will, therefore, be both gluten free and vegan to fit the dietary restrictions of both the Bride and the Groom.
