How We Met

June 2014

One Saturday night in June, Victoria decided to go out to Jenks Club in Point Pleasant with her friend Jazmin. That same night, Matthew decided to go with his two friends, Evan and Travis. As the night progressed, Victoria & Jazmin found themselves on the dance floor. With the dance floor being extremely crowded, Victoria accidentally elbowed someone and quickly apologized....that’s when Matthew and Victoria first locked eyes. Victoria turned around and continued to dance, but bumped into Matthew again...she swears it was just an accident. Matthew, being on top of his game that night, leaned in and said “you know, if you bump into me one more time I’m going to have to dance with you.” Victoria laughed and turned around but within a minute, Matthew purposely bumped into Victoria and said “Well, looks like now we have to dance.” After dancing to a few songs, Jazmin suggested they leave, but Victoria insisted on staying to spend more time with Matthew and basically demanded Jazmin dance with his “brother” to buy more time (they lied, it was just his friend, Evan—but the two were the best wingman/wingwoman). After talking the entire rest of the night, making it seem like they’ve known each other for years, Matthew and Victoria did not want to say goodbye. After exchanging numbers and going their seperate ways for the night, Victoria and Jazmin drove home and Victoria kept telling Jazmin that “the kid told me to text him when I get home make sure I don’t forget.” She didn’t forget and the rest is history.

She said Yes!

11.17.19

Matthew proposed to Victoria on a picnic layout on a snowy hilltop in Morristown, NJ on a chilly Saturday morning on November 17th, 2019. Somewhat opposite of how they met on a hot Summer night at the Jersey Shore! Leading up to the morning, there were many accidental hints given to Victoria, but in the end she was so surprised..she didn’t even have her nails painted! Victoria discovered picnic utensils in the laundry room where Matt quickly “lied” that he ordered a picnic set last year for them. Victoria also insisted on going to a park for a long run that morning and reminded him daily about their run together. Matt was able to fake a pulled hamstring right in front of her while lifting weights a couple days earlier and proceeded to limp around, groaning in fake pain and indicating that a multi-mile run at a park far away couldn’t happen - because he had other plans. That morning, when Victoria left for her run, he got in his car and drove to the park to set up the picnic including chocolate French cruller donuts, vueve cliquot and his grandparents S-engraved champagne glasses, symbolizing her future name. They headed to brunch in town when Matt made a detour up to the park suggesting they look at the beautiful view up there. Victoria didn’t realize that the one car up there was actually Matt’s friend who was hiding behind a nearby tree ready to snap pictures captiring the moment. The two got out of the car and Matt casually slipped the ring into his back pocket. Victoria spotted the picnic, Matt nodded that it was for her, and they walked to it. Matt told Victoria, with a shaky voice and tears in his eyes, of his “deceit” leading up the moment, including his fake injury and the real reason for the picnic...because he wanted to ask her to spend the rest of her life with him. He got down on a snow-soaked knee and asked her to marry him and she responded with a resounding YES!! They popped champagne, took pictures, and proceeded to have the most amazing day.
