On November 3rd, 2020, during the peak of the Global Pandemic, Elisabeth and Victoria set out to find a connection on Tinder. At the time, Victoria was living in Park Slope, Brooklyn and Elisabeth, in Trondheim, Norway. With a time difference of six hours and a physical distance of 3,587 miles, they tempted fate and both swiped right on one another's dating profiles. Their phones buzzed to reveal the words, "You've Got A Match." Sending the first message, Victoria wrote, " Of course, only the most beautiful and she lives in Norway :)" A deep connection followed but hurdles remained. The borders between the United States and Europe were closed with no clear end. Only speaking during Victoria's days and Elisabeth's nights proved difficult. If that wasn't enough, their budding relationship faced language barriers and stark cultural differences. Would they ever meet? And even if they did, could they make it work? One year later, the borders finally reopened. On December 28th, 2021, Elisabeth bravely boarded a flight to New York to meet Victoria for the first time. Ordinary became extraordinary. Conversation easily broke to laughter. They took a walk across the Brooklyn Bridge into Chinatown and ate the best $10 duck lo mein meal of their lives. Best news of all? Elisabeth extended her trip by 10 days. Yes, there were sparks, but to them, it was nothing short of fireworks. Although forced to be apart for months at a time, the couple continued to travel between their home countries and spend time with friends and family. They never lost momentum. They never lost hope. Victoria and Elisabeth knew in their hearts that this was a special connection and no border (or pandemic) could stop them. Their life together finally began in January 2025 when Elisabeth came to New York on the K-1 Visa. Soon, the couple hopes to establish dual residency so they can travel without restriction. Love is hard to find. And when you do find it, you realize it's full of risk. While not many positive things came out of the Global Pandemic, Victoria and Elisabeth strongly believe that without it, their hearts may have remained blind to the possibility that a life-changing connection like theirs existed. Despite the darkness, despite the doubt, and despite the minuscule odds that they would ever cross paths on planet Earth, they followed the light. And maybe that's all that love ever has to be. We hope you will celebrate with us. The best is yet to come.
