We are truly so grateful for your ongoing love, support, and prayers. We could not have made it this far without God, our family, and our friends. Much Love, Victoria & Charlie
Charlie and I first met in Birmingham at Crossfit Laminin. The first time I saw Charlie, I not only was mesmerized by how handsome and strong he was, but I was captivated by his authenticity and compassion he showed when talking with others. What I saw from a distance over a couple of weeks was truly the love of God pouring out of him in all he did. At this point I was intrigued and knew I HAD to get to know him! I finally got the chance to talk with him one day after the workout, and from then on the “snowball began to form”. As time passed over many grueling workouts and thought provoking conversations, we became really good friends and enjoyed each others company. I will never forget the first time we hung out together outside the gym. It all started with me casually saying, “I really wish I enjoyed cardio. Maybe I should start running more”. Low and behold, he had the same thought about himself…. how ironic ;). So, one afternoon we went to the Lakeshore trail to run. I let him know straight up that I cannot run without music, so I hoped he brought his earbuds. Unfortunately for him, he did not. The first few minutes of running, I was jamming out to my music and he was getting the pleasure of listening to my loud breathing and continuous ankle popping. Once I realized how obnoxious my body issues sounded, I stopped listening to music and we talked instead. He was relieved to say the least! The conversations we had were none like I had ever had with anyone before. I was in awe of how we were both on the same path of seeking God for the best that He has for our lives. Our morals and dreams aligned, and we both enjoyed all the same things… especially eating!!! (He later found out food was the way to my heart) Needless to say, the conversations that occurred on the trail shoved the “snowball” straight off the cliff and I have been head over heels for Charlie ever since!
Till this day, I still feel the same sense of excitement just like I did on the trail. It is a blessing to have someone so on fire and passionate for God to keep me positive and striving to be my best and to grow closer to God each day. Fast forward past the many wonderful memories and adventures we have had since that day, to April 27th 2019 when I full heartedly said “YES” to marrying the man of my dreams. The one I know God placed in my life to come along side and grow closer to. The one I get to experience all of life with. The one I choose to give myself to and to love each day. I love you Charlie Johnson, more than my words will ever be able to express! I am forever grateful that God allowed our paths to cross and brought us together for such a time as this. You are such a blessing! I cannot wait to see what God has in store for us come October 26th. Philippians 1:27 – “Whatever happens keep living your lives based on the reality of the gospel of Christ, which reveals him to others. Then when I come to see you, or hear good reports of you, I’ll know that you stand united in one Spirit and one passion—celebrating together as conquerors in the faith of the gospel.”
Victoria and I first met at Crossfit Laminin in Birmingham, Alabama. Early on our interactions were very short right after a workout at went something like “that was pretty tough huh?” and she would reply with a similar remark, even though she beat me almost every time, and still does to this day! She has always been an amazing athlete. I remember very specific times I got to talk to her, and I’ll never forget how much she made me laugh, smile, and enjoy getting to the gym at 5AM every morning. As impressive as she was in the gym, what stood out to me more than anything was how she was (and is) able to light up a room with her smile and personality. It was so clear to me that she was filled with the Holy Spirit which was what I found most attractive! The more and more we hung out with each other, the truer that realization was to me. We had many long conversations about our salvation, theology, the goal of our relationship, and discerning what God has planned for each of our lives as well as our lives together and how we can continue to push each other closer to him and growing closer to each other throughout the journey.
Just before we officially started dating we had to decide if this relationship would be something that we both felt could work. I had recently matched into a pediatric pharmacy residency program in Louisville, Kentucky which would make this a long-distance relationship, and bring with it many challenges to stay connected. We decided that we both enjoyed being with each other and wanted to make despite the challenges. We made an effort every day to FaceTime or talk with each other on the phone every night and continue getting to learn about each other even though we were 6 hours apart. I also tried to drive back to Birmingham as many weekends as I could so we could have as much face-to-face time as possible. Every time I had to leave and go back to Louisville I was harder and harder to say, “see you later”. But, by the grace of God, we made it through my first year of residency. In April of 2019 we got engaged and since have been planning the details of the wedding. I matched into another year of residency training, but this year I am at a children’s hospital in Columbia, South Carolina. After the wedding in October we will finally get to start doing life together in South Carolina as I finish out my residency training. We both hope to find careers back in Birmingham, Alabama to be close to family. I have no doubt that God has led us each step of the way giving Victoria and I this amazing blessing to be together, and can hardly wait to spend the rest of my life with my best friend!
