One of Tori's favorite activities when traveling is to tour historic homes. Of course, Ponca City and the two Marland dwellings have a special place in her heart! This mansion was the first home of E. W. Marland and his first wife. The mansion was constructed between 1914-1916, and featured modern marvels of the time, such as air conditioning, a central vacuuming system, an electric dishwasher, and even the first indoor swimming pool in Oklahoma! We encourage our guests to tour the Grand Home before attending our wedding at the Marland's second home in Ponca City. The contrast in styles, architecture, and opulence are interesting to behold.
The future Mr. and Mrs. Spencer are advocates for women's rights and celebrate the recognition of women past and present for their contributions to society. The museum's exhibits showcase Oklahoma women who were pioneers in various fields up to present day, both on a state and national level. Outside of the museum sits the Pioneer Woman statue, named "Confidence." Donated to the city by E. W. Marland in 1930 on the 41st anniversary of the Land Run, this statue was one of 12 created in an art competition to see who could best exude the pioneering spirit. The other 11 competitors can be seen in the Marland Mansion- which one is your favorite?
Standing Bear was a Ponca chief who successfully argued in U.S. District Court in 1879 that Native Americans are "persons within the meaning of the law" and have the right of habeas corpus, thus becoming the first Native American judicially granted civil rights under American law. The Standing Bear Museum and Education Center is a self-guided experience where visitors can learn more about Standing Bear's story and that of countless other Native Americans who were forcibly removed from their homelands and relocated into Oklahoma. This museum sits on 8 acres and features a pond, walking trails, a memorial grove, and a viewing center of the Chief Standing Bear statue.
The Poncan Theatre is a historic theater in Ponca City, Oklahoma. It is individually listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and is a contributing property of the Downtown Ponca City Historic District. The Poncan Theatre was designed by the Boller Brothers and opened on September 20, 1927. Today, it features both live arts and film events. How fun to view a modern film in such a historic theater!
Brock and Tori's very first date was at The Mule on September 30th, 2019. In July of 2023, Brock also proposed to Tori at The Mule after a trip down memory lane. A must-do in Oklahoma City, both the bride and groom recommend visiting the Plaza District and enjoying a delicious sandwich at The Mule. Brock recommends the Macaroni Pony, Tori loves the Caprese, and both INSIST that you HAVE to try the Okie Poutine (Brock adds barbecue, Tori adds sriracha ketchup).
