For iconic Golden Gate Bridge views, head to Crissy Field — a scenic stretch along the bay that's perfect for a walk, a picnic, or just soaking in the sights. Stroll the waterfront, watch the sailboats drift by, and explore nearby cafes, shops, and restaurants in the charming Marina District just a few blocks away.
The Rodeo Beach, Miwok Trail, and Coastal Trail leaves near Rodeo Beach and follows a fairly developed route along the bluffs above the Pacific Ocean. It takes a couple small detours to Battery Townsley and to Hill 88, the former launch site for Cold War missiles, then returns to the Marin Headlands Visitor Center on Mitchell Road (Bunker Road). Enjoy beautiful views of the ocean and surrounding landscape, including Tennessee Valley, Rodeo Lagoon, and Rodeo Beach. Although steep with some stairs, this hike is worth the effort.
This loop covers a variety of historical paths and offers incredible views of Montara Mountain and the Pacific Ocean. On the hike, you pass through a long straight road corridor that was cut by the Ocean Shore Railroad (1908-1920) for its rail line. Half Moon Bay- Colma Road (1879-1915) was the original county road built over the mountain. You will first pass a building that was originally built as part of a WW2 military station used to observe potential enemies off the coast. Bear left at this point and slowly climb Old Colma. The trail along the ridge was used by indigenous peoples and documented by the Spanish on their arrival.
A classic San Francisco spot full of charm and fun. Wander through souvenir shops, snack on clam chowder in sourdough bread bowls, and say hello to the famous sea lions lounging by the docks. Pier 39 also offers great bay views, street performers, and easy access to ferries or a walk along the waterfront- you can catch a tour to Alcatraz island from here.
