We met in the winter of 2017 when I was home for winter break from law school.. Both of us were on the dating apps and we got matched together. Victor was the one who reached out first and suggested we get together in person. We had our first date at 23 Hoyt in NW Portland. Actually, it was supposed to be at the Fireside, but Mr. Reservations, Victor, forgot to make one and they were booked. So we walked across the street instead. We chatted over drinks for a couple hours and then said good night. We both were intrigued by the other and when Victor reached out for a second date, I said "yes." All together we went on four dates before I had to go back to law school. Once I was back in Spokane we continued to talk everyday. At one point, Victor asked if he could fly up to visit me! I was a little apprehensive at first, but I had felt a spark, and so I agreed. Sometime before Victor came to Spokane, he subtly asked me what my favorite dessert was -- my guilty pleasure. I told him Salt & Straw Ice cream and proceeded to tell him my two favorite flavors. About 1 week later I got a package delivered to me -- Victor has sent me 5 pints of my favorite flavors from Salt & Straw. It was then that I knew Victor was different from anyone I'd been interested in before. When Victor visited me in February 2018, we made our relationship official. For a year and a half we did long distance while I was getting my law degree. Once I graduated I moved in with Victor and the rest is history.
The summer of 2021 was extremely busy for us -- with weddings, vacations, weekend trips, and bachelor and bachelorette parties to attend, it was a treat when we had a weekend at home. One of our favorite activities is wine tasting, and one of our favorite wineries is Syncline, in Lyle, WA. After having not been there in what felt like ages, we decided to make a reservation to go. Syncline is also one of Victor's customers. As one of Victor's customers, he came up with a sort of elaborate story of what we were going to do when we went there (that was only believable because they are a customer of his). Victor told me that Syncline wanted to try out a a hike on their property that they would be only offering to Club Members, and wanted us to be their guinea pigs. I was also informed that Syncline wanted some photos for their publication, and so there would be someone taking photos of us while we were there. Ok, I thought. This sounds fun! We arrived and were greeted by the tasting manager and our photographer for the day. We went on the small hike up to a ridge that overlooks the Columbia Gorge. Victor reaches into a bag we brought and pulls out a box and gets down on one knee to ask me to marry him. Of course I said yes, but Victor likes to say that I hesitated. July 24, 2021 was the date we got engaged.
