Like many modern love stories, ours started online, the classic millennial way! It was July 2020 when we first started talking. I was skeptical about meeting people online, so I used a fake name on my dating profile (don’t worry, everything else was real, even the photos!). It was mostly to stay safe, and hinder people from finding my personal social media accounts. When Victor messaged me to meet up for lunch, I didn’t think much of it. But that first date went so well that we scheduled dinner not long after, and from that night on, we both knew this was something special. I swear I told him along the way my real name, but one day he text me saying “Hey Layla,” the name on my profile. Victor still jokes that he got catfished, and sometimes calls me Layla just to make us laugh. We spent that next Labor Day weekend together and have been inseparable ever since. We made it official on December 6, 2020, moved into our first apartment in Seattle the following spring, and welcomed our daughter Saylah in September 2022. In 2023, we made the big move to Texas and bought our first home that summer. A few months later, we found out we were expecting our son Suede, who was born in August 2024, just two days before Victor’s birthday. Victor proposed on October 2, 2025, and now we can’t wait to celebrate our next chapter together, March 6, 2026, surrounded by all the people we love most.
