The love story of Vicky and Victoria is at once a comedy of errors, a Greek Tragedy, and an epic romance — the kind you only hear about in movies. It all started at a tiny fitness studio in West Hollywood when these two literally collided. From that moment the chemistry was palpable. There was just one problem: Victoria had a girlfriend… I guess there was also a second problem: Vicky didn’t know she was gay. Those tiny details didn’t stop these two from leaning into the magnetism they felt towards one another, as witnessed by all co-workers. The tension built and built until, Victoria broke up with her girlfriend. Too little too late, unfortunately. In the weeks before the break-up, Vicky started dating someone. The man she believed she was going to marry (lol!) A cute, short seven years later, and here we are! JUST KIDDING! Six years were spent trying to make sense of why their connection was not worth pursuing. The heartbreak and the agony of separation weighed heavily on both of them. The presence of the other’s absence a dull hum in the background of their respective lives. During this period, Victoria dove headlong into working on herself. She set her sights on becoming the person who she believed would be worthy of the love she most desired. Along her journey she acquired many new beliefs, one of which she held closely as a form of comfort and reassurance, “What is truly meant for you, will never pass you by.” She also got a dog because she needed something to love. Her friends joked after she rescued her pup Leo, “You’ll have a girlfriend in 5 minutes thanks to him!” Vicky tried to conform to the expectations placed on her by societal pressures, yet something always felt off. She moved across the country, thinking a change of scenery would bring about a change in her satisfaction. But the discomfort of her circumstances followed her. So… she moved even FURTHER AWAY! Out of the country! You know what they say, “Everywhere you go, there you are.” Clearly, Vicky had missed the sentiment behind this saying, though it would soon become clear to her. That’s when her journey inward began. Ironically, her journey inward managed to take her EVEN FURTHER AWAY (I know what you’re thinking, we’re running out of “furthers,” but we’re almost at her last stop. Promise.) Which brings us to one wild Saturday morning, when Victoria stepped outside of her West Hollywood apartment to walk Leo. This wasn’t her typical Saturday, she’d changed her routine, took things a bit slower. It was the only weekend of the month she’d be spending in Los Angeles, she wanted to enjoy it. It was a beautiful day. She’d hardly taken two steps before Leo started making moves toward a pedestrian on the sidewalk, Victoria gently tugged at his leash, and keeping her head down managed a quick “Hello” to the passerby. Only the passerby stopped and said, “Hi.” Now, Victoria isn’t someone who gets dumbstruck. But when she heard that voice and lifted her head to see Vicky standing before her, she had no words. Her jaw landed on the sidewalk. Her dog jumped up on Vicky, who asked, “Can I hug you?” Victoria replied, “I’m sweaty.” They embraced… as they held each other they began to laugh. In that moment they knew exactly why Vicky turned up that day… She didn’t need a change of scenery, she needed a change of heart — the kind that allowed her heart to be free. In that moment, Victoria knew what was meant for her may have passed her by, but she came back around like a boomerang. And Leo did prove to be the perfect wingman. While they had a long road ahead of them they understood the journey they were about to embark upon. Together. At last. Which brings us to the next stop along this journey — Tulum, Mexico. Where Vicky and Victoria will say “I do” and celebrate their love with all of you.
