Joe and Vicky first met at a rock-climbing gym. Joe was an avid climber while Vicky was there to have her first and last experience. Joe thought Vicky was cute from the get-go, and Vicky thought Joe had a really strong jawline. Joe, however, was moving to San Diego in a few weeks, so they had to put their love story on pause. Cut to a few years later and meeting sporadically throughout that time, Joe finally had the courage to ask Vicky out on a hangout. They went to play Pokémon Go and wrapped up the day with dinner, where Joe tried to grab Vicky's hand as he was walking her back to her car. Vicky looks at Joe's hand and back at him coyly. She then says, "I only hold hands with those I go on dates, and this was not a date" as she calmly pulls away. In Joe's mind, Vicky throws his hand away, and he panics. In Vicky's mind, she's thinking, "You gotta ask me on a date—not a hangout. So you gonna?" And Joe does! He clearly states his intentions, and the rest is history. Joe takes Vicky to the Long Beach Aquarium (where Joe eventually takes her back to propose). Vicky then takes Joe out on their 2nd date to watch Disney on Ice (where they discover their love of magic). A few weeks later, Joe officially asks Vicky to be his girlfriend, and they did not see each other again for 3 months. COVID tested their budding relationship, but they held through despite the distance, Joe's long hair, Bingo losses, Vicky's experimental apple pies, abandonments by Frontier Airlines, Joe getting sick in Taiwan, lessons in food moderation, Vicky working at Lamps Plus, and many other challenges. They have been lucky and blessed to have had the most supportive friends and family surrounding them as they grew in their lives. Only time will tell how Vicky’s and Joe’s story will continue, and they are excited to share it with you along the way.
