The date was April 28 and it was the day that Vichida was going to get to…….. Surprise my sister for her birthday! BUT, little did she know… Rewind a couple months back. My sister’s actual birthday is April 29 and I have been mentally planning for this day for months now. The birthday was going to be the cover. After some conspiracy with my sister, I convinced her to go wine tasting in Sonoma for her birthday. We made sure to ask Vichida for some suggestions on wineries to visit knowing that she was most definitely going to suggest her favorite winery. *wink wink* And she did! B.R. Cohn. So the date was set. Back to April 28. The day has begun. We ate breakfast and needed to shower. As I am showering, although I may be soaping my body, Vichida did not realize that I was actually rehearsing my speech. I was going to do this one time and have it be perfect. She did not realize that I had already picked out my clothes to match the theme of the day, pink and lavender. And to match all the guests who will be wearing the same colors as well. As Vichida was getting ready, she asks me if the outfit was good to wear for the occasion, as she always does d=). In my head I’m thinking…uh oh, it does not match! “Babe, why don’t you wear this dress! *the pink one* and being the fashionista I am (totally kidding), she agrees to wear it. Now we are driving to the winery. According to Vichida, my sister does not know that she is coming. So with that being said she is SUPER excited to surprise my sister. But, really, I’m excited to surprise HER. We ALL are actually. We park at the venue and I ask her to blind fold herself with my scarf for the surprise. She is a little hesitant wondering why she has to be blindfolded if she is the one surprising my sister, but still says OK. I just told her to trust me. Muahaha. As I am guiding her through the winery, I can see everyone staring at us. I even feel that they are aware of what surprise is waiting for Vichida...
I can feel the moment rising in my chest, the nervousness, the excitement, the joy of what is about to happen. We take our first steps down toward the wooden stage and I can already see the perfectness. It wasn’t necessarily the beautiful sun hovering over acres of prime ripened vineyards, but rather what had accented this already picturesque scene. It was the wooden deck in front of the view that displayed the perfect half circle full of family, friends, cousins, uncles, and aunties all dressed to match the occasion. 50 wonderful guests staring up at us with their quiet voices but big hearts. “Allergies” are starting to flare up as my lips quiver right before the crying is about to begin. I am able to hold it in. I begin to carry Vichida as she is blindfolded going down the stairs. As we reach the bottom of the stairs, the cue is given to start the music and Capitol Cities, “One Minute More” begins to play. Vichida just now is starting to realize who the surprise was really for. We step on stage, make it to the center of the circle of family, and I remove the blindfold. She sees her family. She sees her friends. She sees how important this day is to have all these wonderful people here to witness such an event. I face her and begin to speak but can longer hold in the “allergies,” “I have waited 38 years to find you and I cannot imagine living a day without you. You’re my lovey dovey, my baby cakey, my after awhile crocodile, my little spoon, and my 3and1. You have made me the happiest person alive and I want to spend the rest of my life making you feel the same. *reaches around to the back pocket, goes down on one knee, and opens the box* Vichida Suwansap, will you marry me?” Vichida’s reply, “Of course!” And as they say, the rest is history! PS. I should have changed the decorations from “She said YES!” to “She said OF COURSE!”
