We met on a night out introduced by friends who probably didn't expect they were about to become matchmakers. Neither of us was looking for love—famous last words, right? But from the moment we met, it felt different. Lockdown came. The thought of not seeing each other for who-knows-how-long was a big no. So, Jess packed her bags (with plans for a "few weeks") and moved in with Viaan. Somewhere along the way, "temporary" turned into "forever". We're still not sure who decided it, but the Oosthuizen household gained a permanent resident. The proposal happened on December 24, 2024. We were on holiday, surrounded by the most beautiful scenery—and as Jess walked in, she said, totally joking, "This would be the perfect place to get engaged. Where's the ring?" The joke landed a little too well—because the ring was literally right there. Everyone else went into silent panic mode, thinking she had spoiled the surprise. (Spoiler: she didn't, and it was perfect.) Our love is full of laughter, inside jokes, and late-night snack runs. Viaan is the king of turning even an argument into a comedy show (which is both a blessing and a challenge when you're trying to be mad). We're each other's best friends, biggest supporters, and favorite weirdos. Life with each other is full of joy, adventure, and endless laughter—and we wouldn't have it any other way.
