For my 30th birthday, David pulled off the ultimate gift: a trip to the Azores. I had first visited with my family in 2017, and I had wanted to share the beauty of São Miguel with him for years.
On the third day of the trip, David told me he'd booked a surprise couples photoshoot. We got dressed up and arrived at Mosteiros beach just before sunset.
I will admit, I suspected that a proposal might be coming. But after an hour of walking around with no ring in sight, I convinced myself I had gotten carried away and laughed at myself for assuming too much.
Then we got to the beach. Our photographer told us she needed to blindfold both of us for “a creative shot.” I thought, "this must be it." But David was so convincing pretending that his blindfold was on that I actually doubted myself all over again.
I finally took off my blindfold, and there was David on one knee. My suspicions were confirmed, and through a happy tear I said yes.
