Five years after it was closed, razed and rebuilt, the Princeton University Art Museum has now reopened and is free to the public! The primary exhibition space is the museum’s second floor with nine distinct pavilions, each with a series of galleries showcasing certain subject areas. The collection is particularly strong in Chinese antiquity, preColumbian objects from Central and South America, South Asian artifacts, and a growing inventory of modern and contemporary art.
42 Acres of gardens and sculptures founded by artist and philanthropist J. Seward Johnson, the Grounds For Sculpture opened in 1992 on the former site of the New Jersey State Fairgrounds. Conceived as a museum, sculpture garden, and arboretum, the first exhibition had 15 works on view. Today, there are more than 300 pieces in the collection. Over nearly three decades, more than 700 artists have had their work displayed across the park.
