Way back in 2004, we joined the Iona Rowing Team together. We were freshmen and it was within our first few weeks of college that we both found ourselves out in the courtyard between our dorms waiting for rides to practice. Glen Island was a few miles away, not walkable. But we had definitely missed most of the rides. I asked Uli if he wanted to trade numbers in case one of us got in touch with a teammate about getting a ride down to the boathouse. We both extremely awkwardly exchanged numbers. I liked him immediately. He was quiet. He wasn't like other guys - he watched people and measured his responses. He was intelligent. He was kind. He was funny. He could make me laugh like nobody else could. We both loved metal. (It was a *little* tough to find other metalheads at Iona.) Like every long term relationship, we have had our ups and downs. That may be the understatement of the year, but I don't want to test 2020, honestly. As we continue to grow with each other, we look forward to celebrating with our loved ones and officially "sealing the deal", aka copious amounts of drinking and eating and dancing,
