Kris and Veronica met in their first ever college class: COMP 110 (at 8:20 am, woof). Their professor, PF Potvin, paired the two up for some "ice breaker" exercises at the start of class. It was then that Veronica learned of Kris's Rottweiler, Bear, and Kris learned about Veronica's car racing past. This began a classroom friendship that spanned semesters as the two continued to take Honors Program classes together. It wasn't until November of 2011 that the couple went on their first date. By December of 2011, the two became "Facebook official".

In 2017, Veronica was living in New Orleans, for graduate school. That winter break, Kris and Veronica planned a Caribbean cruise that set sail from New Orleans on 12/09. The plan had been for Kris to fly into MSY on Friday, ahead of their sailing departure. Wouldn't you know it, at that time, New Orleans was actually in the middle of an ice storm. Snow literally fell from the sky, roads were closed, and planes were grounded due to the weather conditions. Because of this, Kris's flight was delayed, then cancelled! Veronica was worried Kris wouldn't make it in time for the cruise, Kris was worried his proposal plan had been completely foiled. Originally, he was going to pop the question at Celebration in the Oaks, a walking Christmas light special at City Park. But due to the weather, this was also cancelled. Luckily, Kris was able to catch a flight that landed late Friday night. Little did Veronica know, Kris had been scheming with her friends for a plan B proposal the whole time. Her closest friends agreed to meet at their house where Kris surprised Veronica in front of her roommate's Christmas tree by getting down on one knee after taking pictures.
