Where it all started: We met when we we're just two 13 year olds navigating middle school. I get to tell this cheesy story about how he walked in late to the first period of science class on the first day of 8th grade. Although I had known about his presence, that was the first day I really saw Erick, and from there on I told myself I had to have him. The foundation of our relationship was our friendship as children. He was my best friend, is my best friend. It wasn't until half way through our freshmen year of high school, after a lot of chasing, that we made it official! We started our relationship on December 19th, 2013. When you're young, they assume you know nothing, but I knew Erick was my soulmate and the love my life. Of course, we didn't know the future held, but we grew up together. We stayed dedicated to our academics, we got jobs, we made mistakes, we went to prom and school dances together, we laughed, we cried, we cheered each other on at Football and Waterpolo games, we applied to college and we graduated high school all by each other's side.

Eramos dos niñitos de 13 años en la secundaria. Recuerdo que llegó tarde Erick a la primera clase de ciencias el primer día de grado 8. Aunque ya sabía que estaba ahí, ese día vi a Erick de verdad, y desde entonces supe que tenía que estar con él. Nuestra amistad de nuestra la niñez se basaba en la amistad. Era mi mejor amigo, y lo sigue siendo. No fue hasta mediados de primer año de preparatoria, después de mucho insistir de mi parte, que lo hicimos oficial. Empezamos nuestra relación el 19 de diciembre de 2013. Cuando eres joven, la gente supone que no sabes nada, pero yo sabía que Erick era mi alma gemela y el amor de mi vida. Claro que no sabíamos qué lo que el futuro podría traer, pero los dos crecimos juntos. Nos mantuvimos dedicados a nuestros estudios, conseguimos trabajos, cometimos errores, fuimos juntos al baile de prom y a los bailes escolares, reímos, lloramos, nos animamos mutuamente en nuestros partidos de fútbol y waterpolo, aplicamos para attender a la universidad juntos.

In 2017, it came time for Erick and I to go forth into the world and pursue our education. Erick went on to attend the University of California Santa Barbara while I attended University of California, Los Angeles. Being far away from home proved difficult for the both of us. Not only because we weren't at each other's side but because we were just kids thrust into adulthood, learning how to be on our own, while balancing trying to be successful in our classes. We visited each other as often as we could. Finding rides with other students who were coming and going from Los Angeles and Santa Barbara. We were determined to see each other, using the Amtrak, Greyhound or just about any other form of transportation that could get us to each other. Being able to see each other for a weekend was bittersweet with each goodbye harder than first. It got easier as time went by and we began to find our identities outside of each other, made friends, got our own jobs, and figured out how to navigate college. Our relationship withstood the test of distance. We remained steady and strong in our commitment to each other. With each passing year during this era of our relationship we changed, grew, learned and began to figure out how we wanted our life to look together. In 2019 I got the chance to study in Santa Barbara so I moved into Erick's apartment for the summer. It was glimpse into the future of our life together where we learned how be patient with each other, how to make decisions together, how to cook together, how to communicate and how to lead a peaceful, slow life. Attending our respective universities challenged us in so many ways, each challenge bringing us closer together. In June 2021 we both graduated from college and it was time for us to make our next decision together.

En 2017, llegó el momento de que Erick y yo saliéramos al mundo y cursáramos nuestra educación. Erick asistió a la Universidad de California en Santa Bárbara, mientras que yo asistí a la Universidad de California en Los Ángeles. Estar lejos de casa era difícil para nosotros. No solo porque no estábamos juntos, sino porque éramos niños y de repente nos convertimos adulta, aprendiendo a ser independientes, mientras intentábamos alcanzar el éxito en nuestras clases. Nos visitábamos lo mucho que podíamos. Buscábamos transporte con otros estudiantes que iban y venían de Los Ángeles y Santa Bárbara. Estábamos decididos a vernos, usando Amtrak, Greyhound o cualquier otro medio de transporte que nos permitiera estar juntos. Poder vernos un fin de semana fue agridulce, ya que cada despedida era más difícil que la primera. Se hizo más fácil con el tiempo y empezamos a encontrar nuestras identidades fuera del otro, hicimos amigos, conseguimos nuestros propios trabajos y descubrimos cómo desenvolvernos en la universidad. Nuestra relación resistió la prueba de la distancia. Mantuvimos un compromiso firme y estable. Con cada año que pasaba durante esta era de nuestra relación, cambiamos, crecimos, aprendimos y comenzamos a descubrir cómo queríamos que fuera nuestra vida juntos. En 2019 tuve la oportunidad de estudiar en Santa Bárbara, así que me mudé al apartamento de Erick durante el verano. Fue un vistazo al futuro de nuestra vida juntos, donde aprendimos a ser pacientes, a tomar decisiones juntos, a cocinar juntos, a comunicarnos y a llevar una vida tranquila y relajada. Asistir a nuestras respectivas universidades nos presentó muchos desafíos, y cada desafío nos unía aún más. En Junio de 2021, los dos nos graduamos de la universidad con mucho esfuerzo y llegó el momento de tomar nuestra siguiente decisión juntos.

In 2021, Vero decided to attend Cal Poly San Luis Obispo to pursue her master's degree. We made the move to San Luis Obispo. This was our first time moving together to a new place and so we made our home. At times it was hard being in a new place, without our families or friends but we knew that we had each other and that made it all good. We would visit our families back in Fresno when we could and soon enough the two years had gone by. Vero had got her Masters degree and we were ready to move back to Fresno. We had dreamed of getting our own place in Fresno and after finding good jobs, we finally did. We moved into our home and began to make it our own. We finally felt established in one place, after having to constantly move and study during college. It felt great to be around family and friends knowing that home was close by. Between all the trips to Yosemite, and all of our other adventures, life felt full of happiness. On our 10 year anniversary on December 19th, 2023 we visited our favorite place, Yosemite. We spent the night in a cozy cabin. We took a small walk in the trees, and I waited for the perfect moment to finally ask the big question and Veronica said yes! It was a magical moment that I will never forget. After enjoying our engagement and beginning to plan our wedding, that brought us to where we are now. We are so excited for you all to witness our special day and celebrate with us!

En 2021, Vero decidió asistir a Cal Poly San Luis Obispo para estudiar por su maestría. Nos mudamos a San Luis Obispo. Era la primera vez que nos mudábamos juntos a un lugar nuevo, así lo hicimos nuestro hogar. A veces era difícil estar en un lugar nuevo, sin nuestras familias ni amigos, pero sabíamos que nos teníamos el uno al otro y eso era todo lo que necesitábamos. Visitábamos a nuestras familias en Fresno cuando podíamos y pronto pasaron dos años. Vero había obtenido su maestría y estábamos listos para regresar a Fresno. Habíamos soñado con tener nuestra propia casa en Fresno y, tras encontrar buenos trabajos, por fin lo logramos. Nos mudamos a nuestra casa y empezamos a hacer esta nueva casa nuestra. Por fin nos sentíamos establecidos en un lugar, después de tener que mudarnos constantemente y estudiar durante la universidad. Fue bonito por fin estar con familiares y amigos sabiendo que nuestro hogar estaba cerca. Entre todos los viajes a Yosemite y todas nuestras otras aventuras, la vida se sentía llena de felicidad. En nuestro aniversario de 10 años, el 19 de Diciembre de 2023, visitamos nuestro lugar favorito, Yosemite. Nos quedamos en una cabaña. Dimos un paseo entre los árboles y esperé el momento perfecto para finalmente hacer la gran pregunta, ¡y Verónica dijo que sí! Fue un momento mágico que nunca olvidaré. Después de disfrutar de nuestro compromiso y empezar a planificar nuestra boda, eso nos trajo donde estamos ahora. ¡Estamos muy emocionados de que todos sean testigos de nuestro día especial y celebren con nosotros!
