It all began on January 27, 2023, during a karaoke night at Los Pepes. As Veronica sat outside talking with a friend, Diego walked up with a mutual friend—and the moment he saw her, he leaned in and asked, “Who is she? Is she single?” He was instantly drawn to her. Later that night, they found themselves sitting at the same table. What Veronica didn’t realize was that Diego had carefully maneuvered things so she’d end up sitting right next to him—a little bold, a little smooth, and totally charming. Diego ordered a burrito and kept offering her a bite, trying to break the ice. Veronica, having just met him, politely shook her head each time. But while she held back, everyone else at the table didn’t—one by one, they started helping themselves until Diego was left with hardly any dinner. He still hasn’t forgiven them. As fate (and a little tequila) would have it, Veronica accidentally left her ID behind at the bar. The bartender, assuming they knew each other, handed it to Diego. But the night wasn’t over yet. When Veronica went to another bar, Diego left his group to follow her—he wasn’t ready to let the night end. Before the night was over, Diego asked Veronica to add him back on social media. Her response? “I’ll think about it.” But the very next morning, she did. They exchanged numbers soon after, and from that point on, they were inseparable—talking on the phone for hours and texting every single day. It turned out Diego had just moved to Kingsburg—and lived just down the street from Veronica. What started as a funny coincidence quickly turned into something more. On March 11, 2023, Diego asked Veronica to be his girlfriend. They began spending nearly every day together—Diego would just go home to grab clothes and then come right back to Veronica’s house. It wasn’t long before they realized they wanted to be together all the time, so on June 1, 2023, they moved in together. Their love continued to grow, and so did their need for space. On August 8, 2024, they moved into their very first house together—a place they could truly make their own. It was a new chapter, full of possibility, laughter, and love (and a bit more closet space). Then came the moment they’d never forget. On November 5, 2024, during their very first cruise together with Veronica’s entire family, Diego kept the ring tucked safely in his jacket all night, his nerves growing with every passing hour. After dinner, they went to listen to music and dance with Veronica’s mom, eventually joined by the rest of the family. Everyone knew what was about to happen—Diego had already asked for permission from Veronica’s parents and her kids, Morgan and Derek—so they were all in on the surprise. Someone suggested heading up to the very top of the ship, and while Veronica was reluctant to leave the fun, everyone gently nudged her to go.
