How We Met

As told by Veronica

The way Dallas and I met is bland and uninspiring. We were introduced through mutual friends in college sometime in January 2018. However I had seen him before nearly three years prior to our official introductions. I had the biggest crush on him, but he had a girlfriend and, as an awkward college freshmen, I knew I had no chance with him. Because of his affiliation with the college's SUN Center, my friends and I referred to him as Sunshine. And when we were introduced, three years later I remembered him as Sunshine....and he still had a girlfriend. To say he was uninterested in me is an understatement. He doesn't even remember me from that January night. It wasn't until late March that he and I even became friends. Even though he wasn't with his girlfriend anymore, he was hanging out with someone else. I didn't realize it at the time, but this is the most patient I have ever been. Once he was entirely single, he and I went on our first date April 13th 2018 and that was that. We made it official a week later and have been inseparable ever since.

The Proposal

I bought his ring a month before I accidentally proposed to him. It was a cheap $5 ring we found at a summer carnival. He wasn't quite ready for the idea of being married at that time, but he told me to hang on to the ring. And so I carried it around in my backpack for a whole month. Dallas and I had picked my ring out together and when he ordered it he was so obvious. All the time he would say things like "I'm so excited for my package!" and "My package isn't coming until Thursday." Well it arrived early. I was in the car with him as he held the box with my ring in it. He was so disappointed it wasn't a secret. He felt like he had really messed up. I told him to wait a bit so he would have time to plan something nice. At that point I remembered the ring I had purchased for him. It was still in my backpack and I thought there was no point in me keeping it anymore. I handed him the ring (very casually, I might add) and he was so shocked. "What's that?" He asked me and then extended his hand so I could place the ring on his finger. I had somehow managed to propose to him and he said yes, The following day we visited my parents and he asked my father for permission to marry me. He got down on his knee in my family's living room, in front of my parents and siblings and presented the ring that had arrived the day before. Neither of us said anything, I just nodded my head 'yes.' And that was that!
