June 17, 1977 is where it all began. Calvin Harvey and Veronica Small were high school sweethearts that were truly in love. However, it wasn’t love at first sight. According to Veronica, she couldn’t stand Calvin. It took some time for her to get to know him in order for the love to grow and blossom. Soon after they were engaged to be married and on August 26, 1978, they had their firstborn child, Calvin Jr. Eleven months later, August 25, 1979 they made it all official and became husband and wife. From this union they added to the family Shantrail Harvey (Porter), Veronica Harvey (Candler), Jamal Harvey, and Crishadda Harvey. Growing up in the Harvey household was never a dull moment. Many nights we would sit around the foot of their bed and tell jokes, sing, and laugh as it was one of things that really brought us together. Our parents are exemplary of what a true marriage should be. This includes the better, the worse, the richer, the poorer, the sickness and health. These last 40 years have not been easy as we all know that marriage is work. However, we know that this marriage was predestined by God. The word says that “A marriage is not the product if both members’ families, the circumstances in which they grew up, their appearances, their ages, their qualities, their talents, or any other factors; rather, it arises from a shared mission and a related fate. This is the origin of marriage, a product of human fate orchestrated and arranged by the Creator.”
