Things To Do

October is one of our favorite times of year in Utah and not just because that is when we met. There are so many things today, especially when it comes to enjoying the outdoors. Below are a few of our favorite things to do this time of year.

Antelope Island State Park

4528 West 1700 South, Syracuse, UT 84075

Antelope Island is an island in the Great Salt Lake connected by a 10-mile causeway. The island is home to a historic ranch, bison, and sand made from brine shrimp poop. Although that sounds kind of gross It is a unique feature of this state park. The only other place in the world where this type of sand can be found is the Dead Sea.

29th Street Trailhead (Waterfall Canyon)

29th Street Trailhead (Waterfall Canyon)

2900 Buchanan Ave, Ogden, UT 84403

This moderate hike in Ogden is a 12.4 mile out-and-back with a refreshing waterfall at the end. The moderate rating is mostly attributed to the rock scrambling in the last quarter mile, or so before the waterfall. It provides great views of the valley on the way down.

Skyline Drive

Skyline Drive

Skyline Drive, Farmington, UT

Skyline Drive (Farmington to Bountiful): This scenic drive has great views of the Great Salt Lake and surrounding valley. It is especially popular this time of year due to the changing fall foliage. It is a dirt road but is accessible to most cars. We have seen anything from off road vehicles to minivans to a Porsche. End to end you can expect to take around 3 hours but there are plenty of areas to turn around along the way if you are looking for a shorter drive. We recommend starting at Farmington Canyon and heading South to complete the drive in Bountiful near the "B" on the mountain. If you want to make your way to the radar dome that can be seen from the freeway, you will want to follow the signs to Francis Peak. If you plan do drive the whole thing this will add about an hour. If you choose to just turn around at Francis Peak it will be about 2 hours. Please use caution if leaving the road, on foot, as it is deer hunting season.

Snowbird Ski Resort (Oktoberfest)

Snowbird Ski Resort (Oktoberfest)

200 Little Cottonwood Canyon Road, Sandy, UT 84092

Snowbird ski resort hosts Oktoberfest on Saturday and Sunday during early fall. The festival is family friendly. You can find beer, live music, german food, vendor booths, and chair lift or gondola to take you to the top of the mountain, in addition to a mountain coaster, alpine slide and ropes course. The downside is it is about an hour and a half south of the venue and parking and traffic are a nightmare unless you are up there before it opens. The event is free but there is a charge for onsite parking and any food or activities you choose to partake in.

For all the days along the way
