We were introduced in Anchorage, Alaska by our mutual friend, Matt Loken. Earlier that day Danielle and Matt had run in the Anchorage Mayor's Marathon and he invited Danielle to join him and some friends, including Patrick, for dinner downtown. Afterwards we got to know each other at the Summer Solstice events under the midnight sun. Yes -- Danielle had to move to the Last Frontier and run 26.2 miles to finally meet Patrick!
Our Thanksgiving plans changed at the last minute, with us having Thanksgiving Dinner for two in Dallas rather than spending it with either of our families. Patrick suggested that we go on a walk outside that morning before we got stuck in the kitchen cooking all day. We went to an area called Trinity Groves that has lot of trails with the backdrop of a beautiful bridge and the downtown Dallas skyline. As we were walking Danielle told him that her family had a Thanksgiving tradition of going around the dinner table on to say all that they are thankful for that year. After she shared what she was thankful for, Patrick used his answer to segue into the proposal. He shared how thankful he was of all that we had been through together and all the dreams and plans for our future. He shared how thankful he was for Danielle and how much he loved her. And then he said "I have a question to ask you" and Danielle said "Wait, right now?" Then Patrick got down on one knee and asked her to marry him!
