Advice from a travel agent: “When you book each one way flight, add the travel insurance offered via that airline or book a flight that offers "free flexibility" or "free cancellations" or "no change fees". Same with the hotel - only book a fully refundable hotel stay. And run away from anything that is non-refundable. As long as each guest has their own medical insurance, I don't think you have to purchase travel insurance from an outside provider. Most travel insurance policies are supplemental insurance, or secondary to your primary medical coverage. If you face an incident while traveling, travel insurance will not pay any claims until your primary insurance provider has exhausted their benefits. The most important reason why people purchase insurance is to protect against unforeseen events that would lead them to cancelling, which is why I suggest that you only book refundable fares or insurance directly with the supplier.”
