Fate and destiny brought Nikita and I together. I was on a career path and progressing in my leadership career at Tesla. Nikita was pursuing an advancement in her nursing career. We were 2 hardworking individuals with our career goals within reach and not even thinking about falling in love with anyone at the time. However, without trying to sound as cliché as possible, “if it’s meant to be, it’s meant to be” and “when you know… you know.” Nikita and I met through my cousin Krystal who kind of played the Indian Matchmaker role. Nikita’s mom works with Krystal’s cousin Rashika. The story goes that after not seeing each other for quite some time, Rashika and I reconnected at a pooja, where she noticed me washing dishes and helping around the house (little did anyone know this would be the only time I ever did any work around the house hehe.) Well that word traveled all the way back to Nikita’s mom, to where Nikita’s mom thought that we should meet. I am not gonna lie… I played a little hard to get and was a little nervous being introduced to someone like this but on Nov. 30th of 2020 I finally built up the courage to reach out to Nikita… with a DM on Instagram(haha)… from then on we would DM, snap and text all day and night. I was not trying to get my hopes up, but it felt so right from the very beginning with Nikita. We connected on so many levels there was a lot that we had in common and a lot that we did not have in common. I just wanted to continue to get to know her better and better. We finally met in person on 1/9/2021 and when she walked out of the house for our first date, I swear it was like a damn angel walked out of the house. The sun was shining directly on her and I had never seen anything more beautiful in my life. We went to Garlic Brothers in Stockton and the drive in theaters in Sacramento to watch Wonder Woman… that night I knew I met “the one.”
How I proposed… After nearly 1 1/2 years of dating, on May 18th of 2022 I finally told my mom and brother that this was it, I did not want to wait any longer to propose to the love of my life. I already had a ring and the blessing from both of Nikita’s parents, who wanted to be a part of the proposal. Knowing that Nikita is extremely hard to surprise, the weekend before her 30th birthday we went to Hawaii to celebrate Nikita’s birthday which was actually a diversion to draw the attention away for what would be surprise birthday party proposal. I did not tell any of my friends or family that I was proposing but that I was throwing a small surprise birthday party for Nikita and for everyone to be there on Wednesday, May 25th of 2022 at 7PM. On Nikita’s actual 30th birthday we went on a dinner date and met at Nobu in Palo Alto, I was extremely nervous. Nikita was dressed like she was going to the Grammy’s in a beautiful black and gold dress, further reassuring me that she was the one, as I have always loved her sense of style and beautiful smile… Once dinner concluded I began to get extremely nervous as I texted my brother, “OTW.” On the drive from Palo Alto to Newark I began playing songs from the NPS (Nikita Parkash-Singh)❤️ playlist and held Nikita’s hand extremely tight while on the way home… as we pulled in to the driveway Nikita noticed a bed of red rose petals on the pathway leading to the front door. Nikita said, “Ranu, I am scared.” I said, “don’t be, I love you.” As we walked into the front door Nikita’s Parents, my family and friends shouted “SURPRISE!” Nikita believed she had walked in to a surprise birthday party, the family cleared from the pool table where a sign read, “MARRY ME” I stepped in front of Nikita, got down on one knee and had the ring facing the wrong way of course ( I was nervous!) I quickly turned the ring around, Nikita began to cry to where I said, “I love you, will you marry me?” Nikita, said yes and as we were both extremely nervous and overjoyed I was putting the ring on the wrong hand (Nikita is partially to blame lol) we both got up together as future husband and wife with our family and friends shedding tears of joy….
