Like all great love stories, ours began… at a Waffle House. Freshman year of college, we spotted each other across the restaurant, exchanged a polite little wave, and then went right back to our hash browns. Truly magical. Fast-forward to the last day of freshman year at Presbyterian College, when destiny (and questionable decision-making) brought us together again. One minute we were celebrating the end of finals, and the next—we were fully committed to jumping into the campus fountain. No planning, no hesitation, just two almost-adults making very questionable choices in unison. Dripping wet and realizing we did not think through the whole “drying off” part, we parked ourselves nearby and started talking. And talking. And talking. Somehow, between the shivering, the laughter, and the “I swear I don’t normally do this” comments, something clicked. What began as a spontaneous splash turned into an all-night conversation, the kind where time disappears, and something just feels right. That night became the start of everything—our friendship, our love story, and now, our forever.
It was Kali’s last day visiting Chris, so they decided to go for a walk along the riverwalk. They wandered, laughed, talked about everything and nothing. Too many steps later, they finally found a place to sit and rest. That’s when Chris reached into his pocket. Kali immediately told him to stop playing with her, because there was no way this wasn’t a joke. But instead of laughing it off, Chris got that soft, serious smile and started talking about the future—about their future. About how much he loves her, how sure he is, and how he never wants to do life without her. And then he asked her to marry him. After the happy shock, joyful tears, and excited calls to their loved ones, they spent the rest of the day wrapped up in each other—holding hands, smiling nonstop, and reminiscing about all the moments that led them there. What started as a “quick walk” turned into the sweetest surprise and the beginning of forever.
