We went to high school together, and Garrett was best friends with my cousin but we hardly spent much time together. After college I went to live in Spain for a summer as an Au Pair in a town right outside Barcelona. When my cousins said Barcelona was a stop on their backpacking trip we made plans to meet up for a weekend and Garrett was one of the friends with them. In true Spanish fashion there was a lot of dancing, drinking, eating (dinner at midnight), and staying out till the sun came up. The connection was realized pretty quickly (either before or after Garrett had a taxi slowly back into him while attempting to tell me how he felt). Luckily the taxi mishap was just smooth enough and during the remainder of our trips we kept in touch, and met up shortly after we both arrived home. The rest is history!
Like any good proposal, ours started with some car trouble that landed us back home hours after our initial attempt to get up to Lake Tahoe. It was also our 6 year anniversary, so we agreed to try again the next morning and make a 24 hour trip out of it. We shot up at 4am, I was determined to recreate that weekend we spent adventuring Tahoe 6 years prior. We went for a hike, out for ice cream, afternoon appetizers with drinks, and went for a bike ride on the the tandem bike that believe it or not also broke down on us! After a nice dinner we went back to the cabin for sunset on the pier, where she also became my girlfriend, and I asked her to marry me!
