Once in a while, love finds you when you least expect it, even during the most turbulent times. Our story began in a moment of chaos, change, and growth. We met online while each of us was navigating immense personal and professional transitions. Vanessa was dedicating her days to shaping young minds as a full-time teacher while tirelessly working towards her doctorate. Taleeka was diving deep into her new wine business, passionately seeking revolutionary ways to uplift and transform our community... while climbing back into corporate hospitality post pandemic. Our initial bond was founded on friendship—a comforting and steady connection that felt like a warm embrace amid the whirlwind of life. Conversations flowed effortlessly, and it became clear that we were both two Cancers who cherished empathy, communication, and authenticity. Our shared values and mutual respect laid the groundwork for what would slowly blossom into a profoundly supportive and loving relationship. From the beginning, our discussions extended far beyond the surface. Both deeply committed to social justice, we found ourselves lost in hours-long conversations about creating a more equitable world. And when we weren't fiercely debating or planning community initiatives, we'd find joy in discovering and dissecting 90s hip-hop, our shared nostalgia bridging yet another gap between our souls. Our love story is also one of adventure. We have traveled the world together, immersing ourselves in diverse cultures, indulging in new cuisines, and forging friendships across continents. Each journey added a vibrant thread to the tapestry of our lives, painting our world with the rich hues of shared experiences and cherished memories. In 2023, our journey brought us to Michigan, where we felt an immediate connection to the vibrant energy and resilient spirit of Detroit. Becoming dog-moms to a 2-month old Goldendoodle, we named Huey, further honoring our revolutionary icons. By 2024, we had found a place to call our own in this incredible city, a home that now holds our dreams and our future. As we prepare to celebrate our union in July, we are incredibly excited to share Detroit's unique charm and the wonderful friendships we've built here with all of you. It’s a city that embodies the strength, love, and resilience that define our relationship.
