Both Vanessa and Stanley had been invited to a mutual friend’s birthday party. Vanessa had a lot going on that day and wasn't sure what to wear, so she chose something she’d wear to an EDM concert that was somewhat hippie-ish. She arrived and quickly realized that only a few people were actually dressed up to the theme. Everyone else who was showing up was either conservatively dressed from a church event or just did not dress the theme. Feeling self-conscious and worried, Vanessa hid by the refrigerator where it was darker and a place less likely to be seen. Not long after, Stanley walked in completely ignoring the theme as well, wearing a black Patagonia windbreaker, jeans, and Game of Thrones tennis shoes. Stanley was catching up with friends when he noticed Vanessa across the room. Wondering who she was, he asked a couple of friends about her and then decided he would just approach her since she seemed to be new. Stanley then proceeded to go over to the refrigerator and introduce himself. Immediately, both clicked and ended up having a great conversation that spanned a range of mutual interests such as backpacking, hiking, skiing, and running. Vanessa had been initially impressed that someone would so confidently walk up to her to introduce themselves, but she was even more amazed to meet someone who shared her love of running. Stanley initially had been taken back by her beauty, however he was also enthralled by how much Vanessa and her family loved the outdoors. Before they knew it their conversation had gone on the entire party and it was starting to wind down. Some of the others had mentioned that they were going out after and Vanessa had asked Stanley if he was planning on going out too. However, Stanley mentioned he had to teach at church the next morning and wouldn’t be able to go. They ended up exchanging numbers though and Vanessa settled for texting him immediately after the party, telling him how much she had enjoyed his company and meeting him. Stanley, trying to play it cool, responded similarly but with a conversation killer, and both didn't talk for the next week or so. It had seemed a one-time encounter, then out of the blue one day, Stanley texted Vanessa asking if she would go to the rodeo with him. They went later that week where Stanley made Vanessa’s rodeo experience a VIP one. So, in a wrap love can be found by a fridge and in a hippie costume.
