In the city of Rio de Janeiro, we recommend staying in the South Zone, close to the beach — neighborhoods like Ipanema, Leblon, Copacabana, and Leme are great options. For the wedding day (06/12/26), we recommend booking your accommodation in Niterói, as the wedding venue is located in 45 min from Rio. Check the Travel tab for our recommended places to stay.
The currency in Brazil is the Brazilian Real (BRL / R$). The exchange rate fluctuates, but right now AUD$1 = R$ 3.61. We recommend checking the rate before your trip and exchanging some money in advance or upon arrival.
Few TIPS below: Communication: WhatsApp is the main app. You’ll need it to easily communicate with private transfers, Airbnb hosts, rental car companies, and even local businesses. Adapters/voltage: Don't forget your universal adapter. Credit cards & cash: Credit cards are widely accepted, but it’s good to carry some cash. I recommend Wise (Card). Language: Portuguese, learn a few words and download google translation and you will be fine. Safety: Be mindful of your belongings in crowded places, you are not in Australia. I don't recommend use expensive jewelry on the beach, just in case. Rides: Uber Black or Uber comfort. (I'll recommend some private drivers if you prefer).
