The beginning of forever...

Vanessa and Jakeim's story began in 2020 in the most modern way possible, on social media. While scrolling through Facebook, Jakeim came across Vanessa’s story. She was out in the community helping people register to vote, standing proudly with a sign, a big smile, and the most beautiful eyes. What stood out most wasn’t just her smile, it was her heart for service. Jakeim also dedicates a lot of his time to giving back to the community, and seeing that instantly caught his attention. He decided to send her a message. What started as a few casual conversations quickly turned into something more. Soon they moved from Facebook messages to texting, and that’s when they began discovering just how much they had in common. Both are Pisces, with birthdays just five days apart, March 12 and March 17. They both worked in Human Resources, love sports, enjoy trying great food, and share a fascination with solving crime shows. They are both in a fraternity and sorority, passionate about mentoring youth, and even share the same favorite color red. With so many similarities, it didn’t take long for Jakeim to think, “Wow… this really might be my soulmate.” Jakeim planned their first date, but Vanessa had to cancel. Thinking he had been stood up, Jakeim went quiet for a few days. Later he discovered the real reason, Vanessa had COVID and was simply afraid to tell him. Once she recovered, they finally had their first date. Before eating, they prayed together, and what followed were meaningful conversations that made it clear something special was forming. One date turned into many. They spent time exploring new restaurants, enjoying each other’s company, and traveling together. Their very first trip was to Nashville, Tennessee in 2020, where they had an unforgettable time and created memories they still laugh about today. Then in early 2021, life presented a big change. Jakeim received a job offer with the Milwaukee Bucks, which meant relocating to Milwaukee, Wisconsin. While things between them were progressing beautifully, they both wondered if distance might become the fork in the road for their relationship. Instead, it brought them even closer. They FaceTimed every single day, often falling asleep on the phone together at night. They binge watched their favorite shows and even cooked meals together while on FaceTime, phones propped up as if they were in the same kitchen. They continued traveling to meet up in different cities, making the most of every moment together. In 2022, they officially made their relationship official. Then in 2023, Jakeim moved back home to Dallas after accepting a new fully remote job. This allowed them to finally return to being together in person again, this time sharing everyday life under the same roof. Living together brought them even closer and deepened the bond they had built through the years. By 2024, Jakeim knew it was time to ask the most important question. He chose a date with special meaning: August 29, 2024. Both Jakeim and Vanessa share a love for basketball and Kobe Bryant. August is the 8th month, representing Kobe’s original jersey number 8, which is now retired. The number 29 represents the sum of their birthdays (March 12 + March 17). And of course, the year 2024 reflects Kobe’s other legendary number 24, which is also retired. On that meaningful day, Jakeim asked Vanessa to spend forever with him and she said yes.
