Alec and I first met in the summer of 2019 at Kabuki, the sushi restaurant where I worked. He quickly became one of my Sunday regulars, and my coworkers loved pointing out how often he glanced my way. I laughed it off, especially since he came across a little shy and awkward whenever I took his order or rang him up. Eventually, Alec managed to find me online through mutual friends and a quick search. Shortly he began to reach out. With some encouragement from my sister (who partly just wanted me to be her ride so she could stay out later), I finally agreed to hang out after one of my shifts. What was supposed to be something casual turned into hours of talking, non stop laughter, and an instant connection. We even realized we had a ton of mutual friends and had been at the same high school parties but had never actually met. From that night on, we were inseparable ... seeing each other almost every day. Both of us even prayed to God for more opportunities to spend time together, and looking back, it’s clear those prayers were answered. About six months into dating, Alec would joke that he was going to marry me and that it would happen in exactly five years. Sure enough, on our five-year anniversary, he proposed during our very first vacation together in Hawaii. Now, six years later, what started with sushi Sundays has become a life with my best friend, and we can’t wait for what’s ahead.
