It was the beginning of high school in 2005 when we first fell in love. He was shorter than me. We dated for a few months before moving on. Years passed, but the spark endured. In 2016, we reconnected after I moved back home from graduate school. This time, he was taller than me. We went stargazing, boba drinking, and hot chocolate tasting. Then on 06/20/2016, he took me to the beach for a picnic and asked if I'd be his girlfriend. With the sound of crashing waves and the wind blowing hair on my face, I said, "Yes".
On June 20th, 2019, we found ourselves in Japan, standing at the base of Fushimi-Inari, a mountain adorned by a thousand Shinto gates. As we made our way up the mountain, I remember thinking to myself, "I can do this, I can do this, I HAVE to do this". Thankfully, we made it up the mountain before I collapsed. As we prepared to take our last photo, I got down on one knee and asked her to spend the rest of our lives together. With the sound of cicadas wistfully singing in the distance and the swooshing of the wind through the trees, she said, "Yes".
So now that you know our story, join us to celebrate new beginnings!
