The D&H Rail-Trail stretches 38 miles from Simpson, PA to the New York state border, offering a scenic journey through the Endless Mountains. Named Pennsylvania’s 2021 Trail of the Year by the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, this historic corridor follows the former Delaware and Hudson Railroad. Today, it provides a peaceful setting for outdoor recreation while preserving the region’s railroading legacy. The trail follows the Lackawanna River through forests, farmland and quiet rural communities. Riders and walkers pass landmarks like the Stillwater Dam while exploring Wayne and Susquehanna Counties. The surface consists of ballast, cinder and hard-packed earth, making it a reliable option for hiking, running and cycling. This multi-use path also allows horseback riding and snowmobiling in select sections, supporting year-round recreation.
