Elysse & I met and began our friendship through work, close to seven years ago. It's quite a funny store to retell. I, Pedro, was reassigned to a new location where Elysse was already working. Upon showing up on day one to meet everyone, she was first on the list. Elysse was the only one with access keys to enter the building, and after waiting a few minutes for her to arrive, I could hear her footsteps rushing to make it to the front door and introduce herself. We shook hands, said our share of ‘nice to meet you’ and had the regular small talk. I noticed her laughter, her politeness, her gentleness and, of course, her fashionable style. She has an impression that lingers. I don't doubt you probably thought the same as you recall your first impression of her. With 'hello' out of the way, she attempted to unlock the doors but her key got stuck. She wiggled it, forced it out, put some pressure - nothing, the key was stuck for good. I said "Let me try" and sure enough, with minimal effort and a slight touch, the key turned and the doors unlocked - (this is that one moment we all want but rarely happens; when you manage to be cool and smooth in front of a crowd at the opportune time). She blushed; I acted like I open locks like that all the time. Through the passing months we became friends, we had great conversations and got to know each other. We talked about the little things, the big things, and the little things again. Eventually, as life unfolded, we lost contact and communication for some time. However our initial friendship was for us a solid foundation from which, several years later when we got reacquainted, we built on towards a loving care for one another. Initial moments like this last only a few minutes, but it paved the way for us to be inseparably together now. We look back and cherish this story, and with it, that troublesome key.
